BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. — Talk about painting the town — or the county — red. Or blue. Or the ever-popular gray.

Modern Paint, which dates to 1926 New Rochelle, continues to expand across the region. Its eighth store will open Wednesday, May 17 in Bedford Hills.

The father/daughter duo behind it — lifelong New Ro residents Elliot and Laurie Kracko — have been expanding like crazy since forming The Modern Paint Group in April 2015.

Within 90 days of first joining forces — Elliot had owned the store since 2009 with another partner but Laurie bought out the partner in 2015 — the two have expanded to seven additional locations in Katonah, Lewisboro, Ardsley, and a second store in New Rochelle.

The group is also in Rockland, with stores in Pomona and Nanuet.

And future expansion is not off the table. “My father is an entrepreneur and is always looking for the next exciting business opportunity,” said Laurie.

Laurie attributes their success to the company’s knowledgeable staff and designers who help and guide customers from the moment they enter the store.

“That’s something you do not get at a big box chain,” she said.

Another point of difference: Modern Paint is New York State WBE Certified, meaning woman owned and operated.

“Our Chief Operating Officer Maura McCosker and I run the day to day operations of the business,” she explained.

“Maura has 32 years of experience in the paint industry and this certification allows us to go after government funded projects that require minority participation.”

Modern Paint of Bedford Hills will have its grand opening Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store is at 180 Route 117 ByPass Rd., (914) 864-1441,

I worked for my father at the yards and got a taste for the business right out of college.”

According to Ms. McCosker, “it has long been my dream to expand Modern Paint and Hardware across the region. I began my career at age 12, mixing paint and selling hardware in New Rochelle. Today, the original New Rochelle store is 90 years old, and this expansion continues my family’s proud tradition of service to the community.”
